Air Travel Tips for Individuals with I/DD in Washington State

Traveling by air can open up exciting opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. But it can bring new challenges, especially in unfamiliar airports. Many airports, including SeaTac and PDF offer helpful tools and programs to support making the journey smoother for travelers and their families.

Before You Go...

  • Contact your airline with your flight number if you need help walking, boarding, or extra time.
  • Call TSA Cares (72 hours ahead) at (855)787-2227 for assistance for airport security screenings or fill out the form at https://www.tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares
  • Make sure to pack comfort items in a easily accessible spot (headphones, snacks, fidgets) and important documents.
  • Download airport apps if helpful: FlySEA App (SeaTac) and Good Maps Explore (PDX)
